LEC Researchers meet Vince Cable in China

Colleagues from Lancaster were in Beijing on Monday, 8th November taking part in round table discussions on Science, Innovation and Business Growth with Dr Vince Cable, UK’s Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills. Chancellor George Osborne and Business Secretary Vince Cable are in China as part of a high-profile UK government and trade mission designed to improve business links with China. David Cameron is also visiting China this week for the first time as prime minister.

Internship success for undergraduate students

Building on the success of LEC’s graduate consultancy programme, the Lancaster Environment Centre and the university’s careers department successfully recently secured funding from HEFCE to provide a programme of paid summer internships for undergraduate students across LEC degree schemes.

Launch of new Energy & Fuels from Waste CPD Course

LEC is launching a new professional training course in Energy and Fuels from Waste (EFFW) in the spring of 2011. The course, which leads to the award of a 60-credit Post Graduate Certificate (PG-Cert), has been developed by resident LEC companies Stopford Energy & Environment Ltd and Peak Environmental Associates Ltd and includes contributions from over twenty other partner organisations.

Breakfast is Big Business

On the 21st October LEC launched the first meeting of its new breakfast club with guest speakers Jackie Seddon from Envirolink NW, Mike Matthews of Peak Associates Ltd and Dr Ruth Alcock from LEC’s Catchment Change Network. The topic of discussion was the value of networks and the speakers provided examples of different networks and how companies could access them usefully.
