Environmental companies flourish at LEC
The business co-location facility at LEC is now home to 24 environmental companies from all over the region who have moved there to benefit from the expertise and support on offer.
Stopford and LEC in double swoop
Stopford Projects Ltd, a multi-disciplinary engineering, environmental and project management consultancy and resident company in LEC, have successfully been awarded a NWDA grant for R&D to fund a research project to develop a novel controlled release system for the delivery of agrochemicals into horticultural and a prestigious Environmental-KTN funded CASE PhD studentship to investigate opportunities for the development of novel waste to energy technologies in the UK.

The Lancaster Environment Centre is currently seeking north west-based businesses that have not previously collaborated with the LEC in areas where our assistance would help in creating new or improved environmentally beneficial products or services. Confidentiality is guaranteed.
Sell out training courses in REACH
The Lancaster Environment Centre has recently held two sell out training courses on REACH compliance covering topics on registration for REACH and training in database software IUCLID5 both with great success.
Key client deal for LEC based company
Ethos Solution Ltd, a company which create online applications that provide practical solutions in compliance with health, safety and environmental regulation, based at the LEC are starting a new relationship with Barbour (the leading provider of professional information services to health, safety & environment professionals).
Green award success for LEC businesswoman
Becky Toal of Crowberry Consulting Ltd was one of this years winners at the North West Business Environment Awards. The North West Business Environment Awards are held annually to recognise innovation and environmental leadership across the North West, and are supported by the Mersey Basin Campaign and the Northwest Regional Development Agency.

£40,000 boost for SMEs with big ideas on climate change
Small businesses with big ideas to tackle climate change are being urged to compete for awards of up to £40,000 each, as the Shell Springboard programme opens for its fourth year.

Managing REACH – practical help for pre-registration and registration
Wednesday 8th October
This one day course provides a comprehensive overview to help you manage REACH. The day focuses on pre-registration and registration, including pitfalls and solutions. It also includes a demonstration of REACH-IT and IUCLID5.
Working effectively in SIEFs and Consortia
Thursday 16th October
This workshop provides a balanced overview of the legal responsibilities and the practical business issues involved when working in SIEFs and Consortia.
IUCLID5
Wednesday 12th November
The day focuses on hands-on experience in applying IUCLID5 in line with REACH and delivered by two experienced IUCLID5 trainers with REACH expertise. This course is very interactive and full of useful exercises.
REACH Management for Chemical Users
Tuesday 18th November
Much of the focus of REACH awareness training has been on the obligations of manufacturers and importers of chemicals into the EU. However, all organisations which use chemicals have specific compliance responsibilities which need to be understood and managed. This course provides an opportunity to understand these obligations and then act on them.

One Planet Festival
The City of Lancaster will host its first ever environmental eco festival in October. The One Planet Festival will highlight issues surrounding climate change, celebrate the diverse culture, produce and innovations of the north Lancashire area, and aims to inspire practical action to reduce our environmental footprint.
