Profile

Raphael studied Human and Physical Geography at Munich University in Germany. He graduated in 2004 with a Masters thesis on "Ecological Footprint" analysis of the city of Munich. In 2005 he was awarded the GregorLouisoder fellowship award in science for his research. To deepen his competencies in environmental management practices he completed a M.Sc. in Sustainable Resource Management at the School of Forest Science and Resource Management in 2006. For his dissertation on "Stakeholder empowerment in ecological risk assessment processes - a case stude of the Marine Protected Areas of Victoria - Australia", he worked at the Institute of Land and Food Resources at the University of Melbourne as a researcher in an Australian Research Council funded project. In 2007 Raphael joined the Centre for Sustainable Water Management as an early stage researcher as part of the European Union GoverNat project (www.governat.eu). In his doctoral research he is focussing on "The legitimacy of public participation in multi-level water governance". Raphael is jointly supervised by Professor Louise Heathwaite, Dr. Nigel Watson, and Dr. Will Medd.

Current Research: Raphael is currently working as a Marie Curie training network fellow for the Centre for Sustainable Water Management in an interdisciplinary research project on water governance. His PhD focuses on the "The legitimacy of public participation in multi-level governance: a case study of water governance" and contributes to the overall European Union project Governat (www.governat.eu).
