LEC Scientists Feature in NERC's Planet Earth
Two Lancaster Environment Centre scientists have featured recently in NERC's Planet Earth magazine, one for his work on the causes of volcanic earthquakes and the other for his contribution to the Snowball Earth theory.
Volcano expert Hugh Tuffen explains in his article how the discovery of tiny faults in volcanic glass, which he first observed as a PhD student doing fieldwork in Iceland, may have revealed the processes that cause some volcanic earthquakes.
Peter Wynn is part of a team that, through chemical analyses of Arctic rock, has found new evidence to support the Snowball Earth theory - which states that ice sheets covered almost the entire planet during certain periods in Earth's history.
