Dr David George

Research Associate

Research Interests

David completed his PhD in the School of Biology at Newcastle University, investigating the potential of trap cropping for control of cauliflower pest insects.

David remained at Newcastle in the School of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development for a further 3 years, working as Research Assistant on the MITEeHEN Project. This Defra-funded study sought to identify plant-based products with potential as acaricides for the poultry red mite – a serious pest of egg laying hens. During this time David was employed to run various industry-based projects, most notably conducting some of the science behind the approval of spinosad for use against poultry red mite on UK farms.

In 2009 David took up the role of Research Associate on the LEC-led HortLink Project, ‘Perennial field margins with combined agronomical and ecological benefits for vegetable rotation schemes’. Working under Prof Felix Wäckers and with colleagues from both Stockbridge Technology Center and the Food and Environment Research Agency, I now spend most of my time at the project field site in York where work will be ongoing until 2013.
