Research Interests
I carried out the first field measurements of electrostatic charge on ash falling from plumes of one of the world's most actively erupting volcanoes, Sakurajima in Japan, and pioneered measurements of electric fields associated with the plumes at Sakurajima.
Using both field observations and novel laboratory experiments I advanced our understanding of the mechanisms of ash aggregation in volcanic plumes.
I am currently studying the interaction of volcanoes and glaciers, in order to derive information on past climates.
My work involves geological mapping, geochemical analysis and interpretation of data from volcanoes, mainly in Chile and Iceland, that are either currently ice-capped or have been in the last few hundred thousand years.
