Dr Martin McAinsh
Reader in Environmental Stress Biology
Research Interests
My group is interested in the response of plants to environmental stresses at the cellular level, focusing on reduced water availability and ozone stress. We study the role of calcium ions as signalling molecules in the response of plants to these stresses and the regulation of apoplastic calcium. We aim to address outstanding questions relating to signal specificity and crosstalk between signalling pathways. We also study the environmental genomics of calcium tolerance in calcicoles and the response of plants to ozone in Arabidopsis and related species. Through these studies we aim to understand the molecular basis for the calcicole phenotype and to assess the impact of climate change on vulnerable calcicole plant communities and the maintenance of biodiversity.ÿÿ
