Research Interests
My project looks at epilithic algal community composition in rivers. I primarily investigate the interaction between nutrient concentrations and flow disturbance on attached algal biomass and composition, including controls for grazing of biofilms by invertebrates. There is a particular focus on pre and post spate measurements so that the effect of scour can be quantified and algal community resistance and resilience investigated.
This project is funded by The Centre for Hydrology and Ecology, Lancaster University and Natural England.
