About LEC Postgraduate Courses
A one year full time or a two year part time MSc programme is available, beginning in October each year, in subjects ranging from the general programmes in Environmental Science and Technology, and Ecology and the Environment, through to more specialised courses in, for example, Contaminated Land, and Environmental Informatics. All these programmes involve classroom and laboratory teaching for about half the year and independent project work for about half the year. Some include significant amounts of fieldwork, and all include some generic skills training, as appropriate to the individual student's needs.
A Master of Research (MRes) is a one year full time or a two year part time programme, beginning in October each year available in Science of the Environment or Environment and Development (Overseas Placement). It has a similar structure to that of the MSc, with both formal teaching requirements and a project, but with greater emphasis on training in research methods. It is ideal for students with ambitions to follow a career in research.
The one year full time or two year part time MSc by Research (MSc-R) programme allows a student to obtain an MSc by pursuing a research project devised between themselves and their academic supervisor, without the need to complete any formal taught courses. The MSc-R programme is available in any area covered by the LEC research portfolio.
