What our students say
Morgwn Trolinger
BSc Earth and Environmental Science
"When deciding to change careers and return to university from the workforce, I considered universities internationally for an earth science-focused degree.
"I found that Lancaster University offered exactly what I was seeking - the rare experience of classroom courses reinforced with field courses, where the lecture-taught theories are directly applied and field skills to be added to the CV are learned.
"The location of the university is an added bonus; the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and coastline are very close in proximity, providing the perfect environments and geological variations to examine.
"Studying at Lancaster University has provided me with a challenging and thoroughly enjoyable experience so far and is supplying me with a well-rounded background to pursue my goal of a higher degree in volcanology."
Catherine Foster
BSc Environmental Science
"Initially I looked at studying at Lancaster because of the high quality of teaching within the department.
"The flexibility of studying three subjects within the first year was also very important to me. The courses enabled me to have a good grounding in a wide range of environmental processes, while focusing on areas which I find more enjoyable."
Tom Pugh
BSc Environmental Science
"The chance to undertake two minor subjects in addition to your major in the first year is excellent.
"If you're very focused it's easy to pick subjects that complement your main course. But if, like me, your first choice doesn't work out, it allows you to change your major without having wasted a year finding out.
"Lancaster's location means that you are just a 10-minute bus ride from all the amenities (and bars) of a city. Yet the campus is totally self-contained and situated in the countryside.
"The close proximity of major transport links mean that you can easily reach the clubs of Manchester or the hills of the Lake District and the various societies allow you to take full advantage of this."
